Growing up in Africa

Yes, I spent my early years growing up in the African bush... well sort of. My father got a job in Chipata, Zambia and we moved there when I was 2 years old. For being a small town in the middle of nowhere, there were many Indian expat families around. One that our family got close to were the Vadada's, who we're still in touch with after all these years and I consider them my guardians here in the states.

Me, my dad and my sister, Lavi at Malawi Lake in Malawi

My family and the Vadada's: me, mom, sis, Padmini Aunty, Kiran, Deepak and Suresh Uncle

Since us kids were relatively the same age, we all became good friends and it helped that Deepak and me shared the same birthday.

Very artsy shot of my sis and me, I love this picture

Early Childhood

I was born in Hyderabad, India in 1981. My father, an agricultural scientist (studying plant diseases) was working at the time for ICRISAT - the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics.

These are some of the earliest pictures of moi...
